Depends on what system revision. For 7.5.x, you can have a "universal"
disk that would boot a PPC mac (anything up to a G3), or a 68k mac. It
depends on if the OS is supported on that mac. See
http://www.lowendmac.com for info on what runs on what. Also, after 8.1
all bets are off - HFS+ partitions won't boot on 68K macs. (But HFS
will, and 68040 macs were supported in 8.1)
660av and 840av are identical as fas as boot disks go.
Macs are pretty tolerant. :-)
