Unfortunately, in my experience, the MS exams depend in very little
generic knowledge.  When I say generic, I mean like TCP, UDP, SMTP,
topology, network design - etc.  Instead, they seem to focus primarily
on MS related knowledge, which doesn't translate well to any other
system/platform.  Mostly, the knowledge needed to pass the MS exams is
"what to click and when to click it".

If an MCSE is what she needs/wants, then the MS exam prep books are
probably perfect - though I got my MCSE NT 4.0 with a NT server and some
books I got on discount at the local bookstore chain.
