  I was going to bring up John Wakerly's _Digital_Design_ on that topic.
It's decent introduction to boolean algebra, PALs, gates, latches, and
small-scale integration ICs.  It's not bad, if you can stand the author's
odd sense of humor.

  I don't know how it compared to _Digital_Computers_, though.  Wakerly's
book probably isn't as good, as I'd not tend to call it "very well" or
"very nice".
