  Thanks Kurt.  I will probably try this today; I'll let you know how
I make out.

  Also...have you gotten any javax.comm stuff working?  I've found RXTX,
but the authors believe in "clever" makefiles...and, after spending
two hours pounding that mostly into submission, I got fucked by
libtool once again.
