Who said I limited it to tools? Ask my wife ,who still wonders why I
still have my first Tandy 1000 in the garage complete with CM-4 monitor,
10mb external hard drive and PCT Express 286 Turbo card, or why I'm still
driving my 1983 Porsche 944 with 359,000 miles on it.

  packrat!
I identify completely with the thought, but I haven't managed to limit
it to tools. (yep, I even keep the useless stamped wrench that comes
with the $20 office chair at walmart) I have a stupendous collection of
miscellaneous computer related junk, but as soon as I get rid of

My wife exactly. If you haven't used it in the past month, out it goes.
I wonder if it's an age thing? My parents were depression babies while
her mother is two years older than me (I remember her monther from high
school).

I then married someone who will throw out anything she hasn't used in
the last month. Talk about culture shock. She has learned to just
stick my stuff in my computer room, and I have learned to quit rescuing
her stuff from the trash, but we have never managed to identify with the
  opposing point of view :-)
