[geeks] Firmware updating

Only unfortunate thing about this puppy (it has got me extremely down
this weekend) is that it has to go back...*sob*

Ethernet connector has a dry joint somewhere inside of it... since it
has a 30 day warranty I am going to send it back... I'm U2'less for a
few more days DOH!. He wants to exchange the entire unit... I had taken
it apart and put the motherboard in an anti-static bag, but had to put
the whole thing back together. I tried to boot it before I send it back
and it now shows 384 MB RAM instead of 256, but won't boot. All
Openboot tests pass however... still no Ethernet link LED... I think the
RAM must have had a stick or two loose, and/or I reversed the order of
the DSIMMS when I put them back in.

What makes this double-plus ungood is the fact that my LX also died this
weekend. Can these things overheat? (LXen) I don't know why it crashes
all of a sudden and then when power cycled won't come on... everything
inside comes on except POWER LED and no output serial/framebuffer. When
it occasionally does power on there are no clues as to a dead NVRAM...
everything looks fine... time is kept, and MAC addy is right. Usually
locks hard on boot. My house reached a sustained 84 F this weekend...
perhaps 86. I wasn't running the LX for longer than 20 minutes this
last time before it died... left it overnight... started it at 72F got
to Open boot... booting... crash within 1 minute.
