I had a rackmount switch that was quieter than the rest of
the items in the rack.  Maybe that's what he meant.

I am thinking about the extra noise when I rackmount most of
my systems in my computer room.  I'm going to put a rug on
the hardwood floor to cut down on noise, but I don't think
that's going to help all that much.  What I may do is build
some kind of free-standing wall to place between the rack
and the rest of the room with sound-deadening foam glued
to the side facing the rack.
