While checking the ex-rental computer market I came across
a company called Livingston... (I'll spare you the URL, but
with .nl attached you'll get close)
The sell their ex-rental computers, mostly PC crap, but
they also do SUN, SGI, and HP/Compaq Alpha boxen...
I see there a HP 715/50 with 32 MB memory, 1 GB harddisk for a whopping:
1149 Euro's (For the US people, about $ 1100?)
I got my HP 715/80 with 64 MB and extra 2 GB harddisk for the exact
amount of.... absolutely NOTHING. They where throwing it away at the
place I had my internship. (Yeah, great rescue for me, came originally
with PH-UX 9.04, loaned some CD's there to install 10.20 on it. Also got
a nice 19" HP monitor with it.)
An other place tries to get rid of SparcStations 2s 4s and 5s. Now, I
don't pretend to know the real value of these boxes, but over $ 130 for
a SparcStation 2??? Oh and $ 280 for a SS5? Or for the same price, an
Ultra 1!
Other place has some Ultras, but also in my opinion to expensive.
Over $1000 for an Ultra 5... Minimal price for an Ultra 10: $1400...
Enough ranting for now, have been lucky enough with a free HP 715, a
cheap SS4 ($45) and a cheapass Alpha (NoName board...)
