Sony VAIO laptops have several "known" battery issues.  Mostly, it's just
batteries that give up the ghost and simply fail to work.  However I recall
one where the battery gets very hot - I don't think it catches fire though.

Dell recently recalled a bunch of battery due to one or two isolated
incidents of fire/melting.  At least they say it they were isolated.
However, they did recall *all* betteries in that manufacturing run.
