One of the applications you HAVE to have for a palm is a compressed document 
reader.  There are several good free ones around, but some of the others 
will allow you to edit the documents on the palm itself (as opposed to 
offline).  Effectively, this gives you a replacement for the notepad 
(builtin text editor) with no effective document length limitation.  Most 
have a search function.

I use QED (www.visionary2000.com/qed) and find that it works well for 
lookups of things like sun part numbers.
