The last-but-one time I was laid off, I really sympathised with the non-PH
boss who had to do the dirty.  I'd see nthe company going down the tubes
for months, and knew he was being screwed over by the parent company.  I
also had another job already lined up  on 20% more money.

For - oooh - at least a month, I was haunted by having to fire someone.  Not
any more though.  He was a loser.  It just sucked that I had to fire him
within a couple of weeks of hiring him.

I'm getting into the happy position of having paid off sufficient debts
that very soon I'll be able to take a 30% pay cut and not worry about making
ends meet.  That will be a very happy day indeed.  Although I won't be
changing jobs any time soon, cos I have a great set of co-workers and a
great boss.  But maybe I'll just take a sabbatical and go drive steam
trains for a few months ;-)
