Alright this is a topic that is aproaching verboten on this list but
I am tearing my head out trying to fix this and I need to ask people smarter
than me about this.

The situation. I have an old laptop I salvaged by repairing it. It's
a compaq armada 1130t. I maxed the ram and put a larger drive into this item
after I repaired the errors it had. This unit comes with no built in cd-rom
so I made a trade for a pcmcia cdrom that uses a scsi card and has built in
sound. The model is a panasonic kxl-d745.

I finally have gotten redhat 7.2 installed on this laptop. I had to
work out the problems with the 7.3 install disks for pcmcia and I had to
work out the video parameters. I was happy when I had a booting system,
confident everything works as I had installed from this cd-rom and I had
heard sound come from it telling me that the sound card worked in the
external cdrom.

Here is my problem now. The cd-rom does not work. I am at a loss on
figurring this out. I installed from this cd-rom. The pcmcia disks did the
job fine. Redhat lists the install of this model as drop dead easy. Still It
does not work. Possibly because I can't find the proper device to mount. I
also have no sound. I did a custom install to add some compilers and such
that I like when I did the install. I do have pcmcia support starting with
the systems bootup. I am at a loss to explain why this is not working.

If anyone can point me in the correct direction to get this working
I would greatly appreciate it. I have a feeling I am missing something
simple but damn me if I can figure out what it is.
