Well, it's time to part with my Ultra 10. I don't know what to ask for
it, but I know I won't get what I have in it, so make an offer; if I feel
I can do better on ebay, I'll post it (separate from the SCSI and Raptor
cards) there in a week or so.
The U10 is configured as follows:
300MHz CPU
512MB memory[0]
40GB IDE hard drive
Original Sun CD-ROM and floppy drives
Onboard ATI m64 (Rage something or another) graphics.
Symbios SCSI card (SE, Ultrawide, I think)
TechSource Raptor 8P PCI Video Card (currently configured as the
console)--will do 1600x1200 @ TrueColor
The SCSI and Raptor cards may be parted out if I get a good offer on
either/both of them separate of the machine, and I don't get a good offer
on the machine. I hate to be a prick about price, but I'm not selling the
machine because I'm tired of it or have outgrown it--I'm selling it to pay
bills.
The system is in excellent cosmetic and functional condition, and has
never been used in a smoking environment[1]. I had problems with it
before (sometimes hardware wouldn't show up in bus probes), but I've
solved them by clearing the NVRAM and reseating everything. Since then,
it's worked perfectly.
One thing worth noting is that I saw some snow at higher resolutions on
the Raptor. That may not be the card, though, as the machine also had
a SunPCi[2] in it, there's a lot of noisy kit in this room, and the signal
was going through about 30 feet of video cable. Either way, it worked
great at 1280x1024 and below the last time I used it
I can preload the system with Solaris 7, 8, or 9, or your favorite free
OS, if you so desire. If you don't care, I'll just wipe the disc and put
an empty Sun disklabel on it.
[0] It -has- 1GB of memory in it, but because I'm a dumbass and bought
the wrong type (column incompatibility), it sees only half of each
bank. If you trade the memory with a 1GB of memory in a Pentium-PRO
era PC, there's a good chance that you could get both of them to see
the full 1GB. However, the system runs SunVTS and POST fine at 512MB,
so there's no instability from there.
[1] You may not care, but this is a question I ask, as I'm allergic to
smoke.
[2] Robert, I havn'te forgotten about you; I've just been out-of-town
on a jobhunt and haven't gotten around to shipping that SunPCi to you
yet.
