[geeks] Making a "Happy Little Network"

I guess I am in a "Bob Ross" mood which explains my
subject heading.

I need to get a switch that will be hooked up to my
Alcatel ISDN ADSL router/modem. The one I am looking
at is the Netgear FS108.

Besides having 8 ports I would like it to be happy
with my VAXen which will operate under OpenVMS and
a potential future Alpha running Tru64. I assume
there is no problem with PC hardware and OS's.

Do I need to be so concerned about what OS(s) or architecture(s)
I have in the purchase of a switch?
