I will have the oppourtunity tomorrow to buy a few nice machines.
Unfortunately, i have little clue as so what i should offer to pay for
them. C'mon you onyx owners, i know you're out there.
1. Onyx RE2. This is a dual processor machine. (i pulled the cpu board
out, and it has two processors and the solder points for two more) It
had some sort of memory (cache i presume) right next to the processors,
4 modules per processor. The memory board had 8 memory modules on it, 4
of which i believe were 16meg modules. Then there were several boards
that i assume were the video boards. There was also a cd-rom, and two
hard drives in it, i assume that these are differential SCSI drives, one
was marked 2.1GB. Now for the questions:
can it be upgraded to more/faster processors? (quad r10k?)
Is there anything to look for in particular on it?
What should i be willing to pay for it?
2. Tadpole Sparcbook 2- it powered up, and has 32 meg of memory. that's
about as much i can really say about it, i don't know what processor or
hard disk is has, but it has the power supply, and seemed to function.
What kind of processor might this have?
What should i be willing to pay for it?
3. Large quad-ppro machine. no branding whatsoever. has four
processors, 256 meg of ram, and one 9 gig barracuda. It also had drive
brackets for all of the rest of the drive bays (i think 16 total). This
screams "NFS bottomless pit" to me.
What should i be willing to pay for it?
4. Compaq proliant 5000 tower. has two processors and room for two
more. (but would need VRMs) some unknown amount of memory (4 dimms).
No drives, no sleds.
What should i be willing to pay for it?
Any comments/information is appreciated, on, or off-list. Thanks in
advance.
