My theory is that it's to discourage accessing remote cli systems,
or somehow make them "look bad" to anyone ignorant enough to fall
for that.
Or maybe someone at Microsoft was following the standard corporate
policy: "Deviate from standards to force people into Microsoft-only
sitatuions." and thought it could be applied to vt100. (Heh.)
