Ah, yes, but that's because nobody in the company has the balls to tell
the boss what we can tell them as outsiders. Independence has many
advantages. You can tell someone who's already paid you at least 2/3's
of the job already that they've done something gravely wrong along the
way, or whatever, and often they'll gladly pay your final invoice and
thank you to boot, and maybe even hire you to re-implement whatever
needs fixing. Meanwhile if you were a full-timer in the same position
you'd be side-lined or out on your rear if you even attempted to try to
say the same things (if indeed you could even see the problem clearly
enough to articulate it in an effective way :-).
