Not available in area.  I have DSL, but it is the PPP kind that changes
IPs every hour, and for some reason won't work with the stock PPPoE driver
in Linux 2.4.

Nope.  And believe me, I've begged.  The only way to do it is for a
professor to allow it as part of a research project, and the professor who
would do that left.
