So the theory is  need a cooling fan for my lamp...

How, um, retro.

I can just see it now, a little Pentium fan moving the air around my Lava Lamp, mounted like a hat on the top ;^)

My cow-orker just noticed yesterday that when he had a fan on his lamp, it
performed better.
