If you're looking for a bit of humor thrown in try the Vorkosigan series
by Louis McMaster Bujold, and a bit more serious the Honor Harrington
series by David Webber. Both of these are more along the lines of the
Seafort saga (which I find annoyingly depressing), but happier.
