A month can seem like a long time especially if you
are not busy doing something. Maybe you could make
that month as a time to do projects you have put off
for a while.

Is that Amy's first time to Europe? If so, then it is
a shame to spend so long in just one country. I think
it would be better to spend maybe a week in 4
countries and get a bit more coverage. Traveling by
train is fun in Europe. The trains are usually very
effiecient and sometimes luxurious.

You can sometimes rent apartments on a weekly basis
but unless you choose to eat in all the time It is
just as adequate to get a hotel room. If you get one
with a shared bath then the price is better. Here in
Amsterdam there are hotels for $50 nite and they are
not "fleabags".
Cellphones are very common here in Holland too. You
can buy them at the grocery stores with the number
already activated. You purchase talktime with a card.
The only problem is they are often limited to one
country when you do it this way.

In most countries other than France, speaking english
is easy to get by with. In Holland, it is better
spoken than many places in the USA.

Crime is a big concern for tourists. At train stations
you really have to hold on tight to your luggage. I
would travel very light if possible limiting to a
couple carryon bags. You can have stuff cleaned if you
need to.

I would set up reservations at the places you will be
at during the summer. In the fall/winter it is not as
critical, but you are in competition with many
tourists for good accomodations.

If Amy plans on coming out to Holland (the
Netherlands) let me know. I can provide
recommendations.
