Glad you recognise that London is more important than the surrounding
countryside :-)
My own opinion:
Paris: nice in spring and autumn, lousy in summer (chock-full of
tourists) and winter (cold, wet, generally crap)
Nice: nice in autumn, too touristy in summer, nice for a winter break,
not been in spring
Venice: too touristy all the time. Firenze is better anytime, but even
so, avoid during summer
but then, my tastes are probably different.
So where would I go in summer? Reykjavik, Edinburgh, Bergen, St. Petersburg.
Except that this summer, I'm going to San Jose hopefully, for Cal-Ex, and
then I'd like to skip across to the Canadian maritime provinces.
