Found out today that yes, even profitable companies that are
doing well, lay people off right after quarterly financials
are released, and the day before the all-hands quarterly 
conference call.

Fortunately, I still have a job.  Today sucked, anyway, since
some of the people who are now unemployed were some of the
people I worked with day-to-day.

At least the department head was smart.  "Until they find a way to
make Oracle and Solaris run on air, we'll be needing admins."
