Don't go there. It's too soon for another jihad :)
But, since you asked: I prefer pine over mutt based on the user interface
alone. In some ways mutt seems like a couple steps backwards from pine &
other text-based mailers.

Typically not. Most of them
1) Do Wierd Things to my mailbox. I want my INBOX left in /var/mail (or
~/Maildir, or whatever you use), goddammit!
2) Don't do PGP
3) Don't do IMAP worth a crap
Some of them don't even to *any* of the above!
Evolution (part of the GNOME desktop evnironment) it working out to be
pretty slick, but may not be an option for you if you don't have/aren't
willing to have GNOME installed on your machine.
